Once inseparable pals, Dave (Jason Bateman) and Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) have drifted apart over the years. Dave is an overworked lawyer and family man, while Mitch has thus far avoided most of the normal responsibilities of adulthood. Each is envious of the other's life, and following a drunken binge, the men awake to find they have somehow switched bodies. Dave and Mitch soon discover that things are not as rosy as they seemed and try to find a way to return their lives to normal.

Critics Consensus

There's a certain amount of fun to be had from watching Bateman and Reynolds play against type, but it isn't enough to carry The Change-Up through its crude humor and formulaic plot.

A few good jokes in an otherwise forgettable film. Definitely not worth losing almost two hours of one's life. I actually like the actors, but I think they really chose poorly when deciding to work in this film. Another thing, I find it tiresome when all the jokes revolve around sex and poop. Just sayin.

The whole switching bodies seems really off, because Ryan Reynolds can't help himself, but play himself. It really doesn't feel like someone else is in his body, because he's just always acting in this goofy Ryan Reynolds way. that's what really disappointed me. Except for that I don't like the whole "acting out doesn't have any bad consequences"-thing, where you know from the start, that everything is gonna work out better than it started in the end.
