Adapted from Enid Blyton's beloved classic novel The Magic Faraway Tree, the film centers on Polly (Claire Foy), Tim (Andrew Garfield), and their three children -- a modern family forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. As they adapt to their new lives, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents, including treasured characters Moonface (Nonso Anozie), Silky (Nicola Coughlan), Dame Washalot (Jessica Gunning), and Saucepan Man (Dustin Demri-Burns). At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular, fantastical lands, and through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learns to reconnect and value each other for the first time in years.

The Magic Faraway Tree is sweet, even a bit twee, and unfailingly nice in a way that will draw early sighs of relief from parents jaded by more obnoxious family fare. But it’s surprisingly unfunny.

It sputters out in the end, but it is worth a visit for families and both leads are endearing.

Garfield, an actor who can make you feel like you’re being hugged in his presence, even in a film like The Social Network, is especially good at selling this movie’s winsome vibes.

A warm, funny and genuinely charming family film, even if it's sometimes a little too sweet for its own good. [Full Review in Spanish]

The parade of impossible creatures and kingdoms ultimately feels mechanical, like ticking boxes on a bucket list. [Full review in Spanish]

Very family friendly movie. We really enjoyed it. A sequel wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Quite a fun movie. It did not follow the book exactly but the spirit was there and the changes were understandable considering the length of the book. Some people may have been put off by there being a plot about the family itself but my daughter quite liked that and felt it added a lot to the story. My sister felt it added a nice bit a whimsy to the adults which she enjoyed. All in all it was an excellent outing for the whole family.
