Talyn G @RT80824470 4d The Phantoms (2022) directed by Logan Thomas mistakes sluggish pacing for suspense and vague storytelling for depth. What should be an atmospheric Gothic thriller instead meanders through repetitive scenes, cryptic dialogue, and a paper-thin plot that never delivers on its promise. Despite a talented cast, the characters are underdeveloped, leaving the performances with little to work with. The cinematography has a few moody moments, but endless shots of dark hallways can't disguise the lack of genuine tension or narrative momentum. Rather than building mystery, the film drifts into confusion, teasing profound revelations that never materialize. By the time the ending arrives, it's difficult to care because the story has already exhausted the audience's patience. The Phantoms had the ingredients for compelling psychological horror but settles for a slow, forgettable experience that is more tedious than terrifying. This is just a bizarre mishmash of the beginnings of ideas that were never really well developed, poorly written, slowly paced, clumsily acted (despite some talent!), then frantically stapled together in the last few minutes with a half-baked 'twist' that elicited an actual groan from me.
