Lured to a Japan he hasn't seen since World War II, century-old mutant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) finds himself in a shadowy realm of yakuza and samurai. Wolverine is pushed to his physical and emotional brink when he is forced to go on the run with a powerful industrialist's daughter (Tao Okamoto) and is confronted -- for the first time -- with the prospect of death. Critics Consensus

Although its final act succumbs to the usual cartoonish antics, The Wolverine is one superhero movie that manages to stay true to the comics while keeping casual viewers entertained.

Japan seems valued more for its scenery and costumes than anything having to do with its character.

While not entirely devoid of problems, The Wolverine proves it can heal from its wounds to deliver an underrated and satisfying experience.

An improvement from the first solo Wolverine movie, but still only serves as a throttled version of what is capable with the character.

... James Mangold... stages some impressive scenes but can’t overcome a busy script from Mark Bomback and Scott Frank.

The first 2/3's are great, with Jackman at the top of his game, a gorgeous Japanese backdrop and a few terrific action set pieces. Then it throws it all away in a bloated CGI finale.

Very well done, although hard to determine where this particular movie fits in? Still, very entertaining and captivating, love the Yakuza / Japanese dimension added. Great cinematography and well written. All the magic, action, fast paced, suspense, twists and emotion familiar to the genre.

i really dont understand the point of this movie. how is this somewhat related to wolverine at all? its like some anime fanboy who happens to like wolverine wanted to merge these 2 niche to satisfy his wibu fantasy of having xmen in japan. this movie doesnt play any role or significant in xmen universe at all nor to logan character. he just so happened to be caught up in this japanese family drama of some old man who was obsessed with logan healing capability to stay immortal because he cant let go of his wealth. the whole wolverine ordeal is that he has the ability to self heal. why would u remove that for the sake of story line? if they didnt remove his abilty from the start this whole family drama wont happened. this drama only got carried away because logan was weak and in pain. just wrap it up already smh.
