Critics Consensus

The plot in Vertical Limit is ludicrously contrived and cliched. Meanwhile, the action sequences are so over-the-top and piled one on top of another, they lessen the impact on the viewer.

Alternately generating adrenaline and ennui, Vertical Limit battles itself to a hard-earned draw.

The pace of the movie rarely flags (neither does the idiocy, alas) and it's enough to warrant a marginal recommendation.

This is a movie that means to keep you involved and, preferably, gasping from start to finish . At that, it certainly does succeed.

Despite an avalanche worth of cliches, the over-the-top nitroglycerin-fueled action and a dramatic rescue attempt premise allow for a big, fun movie experience set on the gorgeous but dangerous snowy peaks of Pakistan.

It's pretty well written and intense. And at least there's some character development.

VERTICAL LIMIT is quite the entirely predictable flick with everything (and even MORE!) that possibly could (even remotely) go wrong doing exactly that and JUST AS PREDICTED — and sometimes, EXACTLY WHEN YOU PREDICT IT WILL (a lot of the dialogue too!) That said, VERTICAL LIMIT is so whacked out in almost every direction that it becomes an unbelievable spectacle that's hard to look away from to catch your breath and look for the remote to find another channel. All joking aside. VERTICAL LIMIT isn't such a great flick, but ya still find yourself glad to have watched it! Can I explain myself? Not one bit (it's that FUBARed)...
