While searching for animal body parts at a London circus, radical scientist Victor Frankenstein meets gifted surgeon Igor Straussman. Worst film of the year? Possibly. Worst Frankenstein adaptation ever? Definitely (and considering that Aaron Eckhart's egregious 2014 action flop I, Frankenstein is also in the running, that's impressive).

Rating: 4.7/10 ⭐️ I expected a fresh take on the classic monster story, but the chaotic tone and messy script left me super underwhelmed. What Worked: Wagner’s cinematography uses practical lighting to give 1860s London a wonderfully textured feel. McAvoy brings incredible, manic energy to Victor. Through my Methodist faith lens, seeing Victor try to manufacture life out of death powerfully reinforced my beliefs about the sacred nature of God’s design and the heavy consequences of playing creator. The Cuts: Landis’ script gave me total tonal whiplash, aggressively jumping from buddy-comedy to dark body horror. The middle part really dragged for me, spinning its wheels on generic romance tropes instead of moving the story forward. Keeping it spoiler-free, the massive final showdown abandons all psychological tension for a loud CGI mess that totally robbed the climax of real weight. Verdict: A visually solid but tonally confused mess. Skippable unless you’re a fan of the actors.

With all the technology and AI available in this day and age, why was Frankenstein’s body coloured in with makeup. It just looked like a jigsaw puzzle. It was so off putting.
