What to Know

Critics Consensus

We Don't Live Here Anymore is often overly moody and grim, but it's made watchable by the strong performances for its four principal actors.

Dubus, anticipating the dreaded Raymond Carver, is only concerned with the interiority of the characters. It's solipsism once removed; and in this film, it's that times four. Go to Full Review Jay Boyar Orlando Sentinel Oct 1, 2004

It's the relationship that doesn't involve sex between [Mark Ruffalo] and [Peter Krause] that's the real clincher. Their games of one-upmanship and bravado fizzle with a kinetic tension... Go to Full Review Gregory Freitas Hollywood.com Nov 20, 2008

Robert P @Superbad Sep 26, 2026 This Movie is a *3* star Movie!! See more Wendy C @RT29560753 Sep 11, 2026 What a crap waste of time movie...about a subject that I know happens...but as to watching it on screen....so ridiculous...Such a fab cast of actors ...I wonder why they bothered making this stupid movie with no real substance at all ....just dribbling on about marriage and infidelity...who would find it entertaining....I certainly didnt. If I had known it was going to be more dribbling on an on I would have stopped watching it half way through. BUT because of the cast I continued...what a waste of time it all was. See more Shawn E @Bahllusyourmouthous Aug 22, 2026 It’s mark wokey woke and Dino Dern tell the other scientists she’s taken. Mark lays a egg turd in this one. See more Lauren M @realitycheck11 Dec 22, 2025 This movie sucked the big one. People with no sense of responsibility fall into an affair for sex and just don't know it. They think it is love but it is not. Childish and irresponsible but in the end the man cannot leave his wife, because in the end he loves her and does not want to ruin his marriage. The wife having the affair with him just wants to change her life and marriage and I think any man would have been ok she was ripe for an affair rather than just divorcing her husband she just leaves him. Stupidest movie I ever saw. She needed to grow a pair and divorced him long ago. As for the man involved in the affair - it was just pure sex when it comes down to it. Immaturity - pure and simple, boredom - pure and simple. Nothing redeeming about this movie just pure crap.
