Critics Consensus

With plot points Stolen from countless superior films, this would-be thriller squanders a solid cast on overly serious and suspense-free storytelling.

A leaden murder mystery with a clunky structure that swings back and forth between 1958 and 2008, Stolen wastes the talents of a reasonably good cast. Go to Full Review Rex Reed Observer Mar 17, 2010

Not a masterpiece, perhaps, but technically polished, with inspired performances and enough suspense that by the time Mr. Hamm found the redemption that freed him from his own demons, I was so wired I needed a Valium. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Aug 22, 2023

This thriller, if that’s what it’s supposed to be, never comes close to reaching a boiling point, neither dramatically nor in terms of suspense. Go to Full Review Christopher Long Movie Metropolis Jun 22, 2010

Hamm's and Lucas' performances are fine, but first-time director Anders Anderson is heavy-handed and overwrought, portraying emotional turmoil with clichs. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Tim T @TT196675 Jul 11, 2026 There's a lot of good actors in this, but they should have paid a LOT more attention to period details. As soon as it flipped to 1958, and I saw all of the kids with LONG HAIR, it pulled me right out of the story. HUGE oversight by the producers. There's just no way 3 boys in 1958 would all have shaggy, long, long hair. No way. The complete lack of attention to detail in regards to this just ruined what could have been a fairly strong film. Too bad. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jul 20, 2025 Success in 1 hour and 37 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated R for A Scene of Sexuality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
