See more Kyle M @RT77296778 Dec 23, 2025 The childlike innocence that purify Christmas morning is the sole manifestation through this familiarly formulized love story, also christened with a tenderly thoughtful screenplay and sweetened performances to elevate this acceptably small holiday cheer that progressively improves. See more Len R @RT29775516 Dec 24, 2024 Steve (Robert Mitchum) has virtually no noticeable redeeming qualities, and yet the film asks us to root for his character to win over Janet Leigh, at the expense of poor Carl (Wendell Corey), who does nothing to deserve his fate. The filmmakers needed to either infuse Mitchum’s character with more positive qualities, or Corey’s character with more obvious flaws. I will not be watching this film again. See more Joel H @786Joel Nov 3, 2023 I think the reason Holiday Affair didn't work for me is that they didn't get the romantic comedy formula correct. It's a lopsided love triangle. The filmmakers try to force you into liking Steve Mason (Robert Mitchum), even though there's not really a reason to want Connie Ennis (Janet Leigh) to choose him over Carl Davis (Wendell Corey). In fact, I found myself liking Carl more as the movie went on and liking Steve less. Plus, the plot is about as thin as Christmas wrapping paper. There were moments of this movie I enjoyed, but I can definitely see why this is not considered a Christmas classic.
