Critics Consensus

Given the impressive array of talent involved in Absolutely Anything -- and the near-total lack of laughs it provokes -- this Monty Python reunion can only be regarded as a disappointment.

Treat-sized food-for-thought from a wonderfully silly director. Go to Full Review Stephen Dalton The Hollywood Reporter May 8, 2017
Absolutely Anything is a good idea but is executed poorly, with a lame take-home message about great power demanding great responsibility. Go to Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) May 8, 2017

The redeeming factor is the sheer, unabashed silliness. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Apr 4, 2022

Absolutely Anything may be a bad movie, but I laughed a lot, and really, that's what Jones and company set out to accomplish. Go to Full Review Phil W. Bayles One Room With A View May 4, 2019

Eric Idle always tells us to look on the bright side, but it's hard to see a bright side to this depressingly unfunny movie. See absolutely anything else. Go to Full Review Matthew Bond The Mail on Sunday (UK) Oct 30, 2017

Jones's cult status ensures a decent cast but the execution is messy, short of laughs and tiresome. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Paul D @RT52361637 Sep 21, 2026 Not horrible, but nothing special, either. Standard romcom formula. I have to think Kate Beckinsale felt a bit of deja vu after having starred in the similarly-premised Click. Pegg is charming as usual. I'm glad I watched, but I doubt I'll be revisiting it. See more Terry D @RT96549005 Sep 18, 2026 I came across the comedy "Absolutely Anything" on Amazon Prime last night and found it to be ridiculously silly fun directed by Terry Jones (the last film he ever made) starring Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale and Robin Williams (his last film) as Dennis the Dog. It was like an eccentric British version of "Bruce Almighty." It is a good investment of one hour and twenty-five minutes if you feel the need to roll on the floor laughing. See more Deron B @DapigeonOne Aug 18, 2026 Genuinely funny movie a great short watch for anyone looking for a quick good time.
