What to Know

Critics Consensus

Tyler Perry and Matthew Fox do their best, but they're trampled by Rob Cohen's frustrating direction and a tasteless, lazily written screenplay.

... Alex Cross is certainly the weakest of the series, which reportedly will continue with Perry in the next film. God help us all. We can only hope for the best with that one. Go to Full Review Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Nov 27, 2012

[Perry] has rarely been less convincing than when locking and loading from his home arsenal or dangling from a decaying Detroit edifice. Go to Full Review David Edelstein New York Magazine/Vulture Oct 22, 2012

"Alex Cross" is a lazy and uninspired attempt. Patterson's readers will tell you, the title character is a ripe and rich literary character with many incredible stories and thrilling stories to tell. He deserves better than this uneven effort. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Hero black dude, evil white man, dog shit dialogue…Even a wheel chair lawyer (not a black one, they’re only in the positions of power). Tyler Perry cop/scary movie type. *update* OH SHIT IT IS TYLER PERRY! I FN TOLD YALL!!!!! They switched it to the series!! HHahhahaha. Wild See more Susan T @RT91750568 Aug 23, 2026 Predictable. Sadistic killer and a cop out for revenge. The series deserves better. See more thiago S @Thiagostone Mar 25, 2026 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Brenden D @WestWardReviews Jun 30, 2025 "YOU HAVE A VERY GENERIC SCRIPT" Not Bad But Not Good. This film is very by numbers with one of the biggest cliches in the whole Cat-And-Mouse Game. Once this becomes "Rogue Cop On A Revenge Quest", it's as Paint-By-Numbers as you can get. Absoultely nothing ground-breaking or interesting. The line "You have a very pretty wife" from the trailer takes away any shock and feels likes something anyone could write.
