In 1973, kidnappers demand $17 million from billionaire J. Paul Getty in exchange for his grandson's release. Scott slowly draws you into Getty's world, ensconced in his mansion. That's the story that wants telling. The one we get is a technically rich, beautifully styled, decently performed and moderately interesting spectacle.

[Ridley] Scott is a little distant in the way he observes his characters and their dilemmas. The young boy is in mortal danger all through... but your heart is not as much in your mouth as it should be. Still, the film nails the time and place.

Brilliant! Ridley Scott did good in bringing this to screen. Amazing that it is based on true events. Great story, very well written. Very good cinematography and visually stunning. Christopher Plummer excels in JP Getty role, well, whole cast convincing in character. Filled with lots of drama, action, suspense, intrigue, emotion and very real feel to it. Sad in various ways and enlightening in others. Very memorable and entertaining

I think the movie does a very good job at winding up the audience to dislike John Paul Getty. I think the icing on the cake was his frugal nature as many well off individuals I know tend to suffer at their own expense to be frugal sometimes. I liked the dynamic between all the characters and though that all the actors did a great job. Ending was good, could have done without the night time city scene.
