When young British teacher Anna Owens arrives in Bangkok to tutor the family of King Mongkut, she finds that she is not well prepared for her exotic new surroundings. Anna begins to teach Mongkut's many wives and children and, by refusing to give up many of her own customs, wins the admiration of the ruler with her tenacity. Though Anna's presence is met with some resistance, she gradually becomes valued in the royal palace, particularly by the stubborn king.

Before it became a popular musical with Yul Brynner, Margaret Landon's book about the British Governess was a skillful, well acted melodrama by Rex Harrison (in his Hollywood debut) and Irene Dunne.

1946! Early NON-Musical version long Before the iconic Broadway musical. So interesting. & the great REX as the KING! (will he and this movie be CANCELLED now? for that 'cultural approp' way back Then? And having a White Englishlady teach those adorable Siamese children, how is this story allowable by the you know who today? Saw it on tv, June 2021

Synopsis
