In a world in which no one speaks, a mysterious, devout community hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving) who has escaped their imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to pacify an evil which resides deep within the surrounding wilderness -- but Azrael will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival. From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.

Critics Consensus

Lead by another bloody fantastic performance from Samara Weaving, Azrael sacrifices depth on the altar of storytelling economy but delivers pure adrenaline in the bargain.

The filmmakers give birth to a new nightmare, one overflowing in possibilities and, it should be noted, several purposefully unanswered questions. Azrael is a blood-soaked blast.

It’s chase sequence after chase sequence with hints of context here and there, just enough to hold the story together but not enough to fully explain everything.

The bold folk survival horror boasts breathtaking visuals and a unique concept, but one that doesn't feel fully realised.

At its core, Azrael is a dark symphony of mood and motion, with Samara Weaving delivering a performance that echoes with silent intensity.

Azrael may be significantly better than No One Will Save You as a dialogue-free horror movie but lacks the energy and development of a Ready or Not-type vehicle for Samara Weaving.

I don't need to be spoon fed but wtf??? This needs more structure and explanation in its telling. Movie concept was interesting.

Starts off questionable but the third act definitely saves the entire film. Samara Weaving delivers a strong performance as expected. It’s a fun one worth a watch.

Worst movie of 2024. Not sure how or why it made it past the movie festival and onto IFC. It’s literal garbage
