James R @JamesBlake Jul 4, 2026 There are sports movies about the triumph of the human spirit, the pursuit of athletic excellence, and the overcoming of impossible odds. Beer League is absolutely none of those things. It is, instead, a startlingly accurate documentary about the specific kind of middle-aged male delusion that occurs on municipal dirt fields every Sunday. What the film lacks in cinematic elegance, character development, or basic decency, it makes up for in sheer, unfiltered New Jersey hostility. If Shakespeare had written a play composed entirely of vulgarities shouted across a chain-link fence, it would look a lot like this. It is aggressively raunchy, thoroughly low-brow, and features more pulled hamstrings than a medical journal. It earns a solid 3.5 stars because it successfully accomplishes exactly what it set out to do: capture the tragicomic reality of adult recreational sports. See more Reginald G @RT57280159 May 5, 2026 This is a good movie to watch when you are sitting around on a random Tuesday doing nothing important, and you have nowhere to be, and you need to lose a couple hours. It’s fun to watch, a bit silly, little bit raunchy maybe, It’s just one of those movies that You want to have in your collection. Do we need every movie to be perfect and filled with an all star cast and a big budget? No. We need a few C lister movies like this that are fun to watch, not to mention giving you a few quote lines that you and that one the other guy knows because he has seen the movie also. Beer League is one of those low-key movies that you hate to admit that you like. See more Brent H @BrentMHinson Mar 4, 2026 Before you press play on Beer League, close your eyes and imagine what a film starring Artie Lange might look like. Chances are, whatever you’ve conjured is 95% accurate to what actually unfolds on screen. The film feels less like a scripted feature and more like a collection of ideas Lange pieced together while refining a stand-up set. Lange—who not only stars but also co-wrote and produced—allows the film to be exactly what it is: an excuse for him and his buddies to drink beer and play softball while getting paid to do so. Perhaps the most baffling aspect of the production is the caliber of the supporting cast. Given the total lack of substance, it is genuinely surprising to see names like Ralph Macchio, Laurie Metcalf, and Tina Fey show up in supporting and cameo roles. Ultimately, it isn’t the worst movie I’ve ever sat through—it is tolerable in small doses—but it remains lackluster even when compared to the low expectations you likely had before the opening credits rolled. See more Test T @TestTest1 Mar 23, 2025 I watched this on DVD recently. It's a lot crude, and the story is hardly original, but somehow it manages to satisfy just enough to avoid being turned off! Hardly a glowing review, I know, but at times Artie's down and dirty comedy really hits the mark, as he delivers it with matter of fact effortlessness to seem real. He's got talent, no doubt, and the supporting characters are funny too at times, although I think Artie lacks charisma as the lead. I found that it was the kind of movie I didn't really want to like, but as I watched more of it, it started to win me over. The other thing which stood out to me was the very upbeat instrumental soundtrack, which made softball seem very exciting. It's a catchy little rock riff which I really liked. In summary, this film will not suit everyone, and some may be offended by it, but I quite enjoyed it and think it's worth a look.
