Gable L @Melipona 4d As a major fan of the original Cabaret musical, I found this adaptation lacking in almost every regard. It omitted key characters whilst including new and far more pointless or otherwise less effective ones for seemingly very little reason; those who survived were often relegated to easter eggs, such as Fraulein Schneider who, in the original, was one of the most important characters. The massive, sweeping changes to the plot and characterization led to the songs feeling somewhat disconnected from the plot in a way that felt unintentional. There was no sense of horror when "If You Could See Her" began playing, and the finale fell flat because the story had never bothered to really connect the political side of the story with the relationship side even by omission; the nazis were instead relegated to simple set dressing, and there were no nazis whom the main characters knew personally. Some of the songs were well executed, but overall this is simply a worse reimagining of the original. Additionally, even though politic is ass, we should actively involve and try to see what the party try to bring into our local community or country. It questions what we as humans do in the face of evil. And that ending, when it turns the reflection of a mirror on the Cabaret audience to reveal it is filled with Nazis. That they sit among you. It asks you to question yourself, who you surround yourself with, who you trust. As an American, I think we need Cabaret now more than ever. I watched this film after watching neighbors hide from ICE vehicles, after seeing the faces of those killed by them all over the news. Families are being torn apart, racism is being encouraged, and our freedoms are being erased. For everyone, no matter your political standing. None of us are safe from this. Yet, we bury ourselves in distractions. Bear Cups, Labubus, so many pointless things that mean nothing compared to human life. This movie is a warning. Open your eyes and do something. See more rex w @RT11010153 Nov 8 Liza Minelli had the greatest musical performance ever. However, the slow pace of the film keeps it from being the all-time greatest musical. More singing and less talking would have made this even more of a classic. "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," sung by the Hitler Youth and the villagers at an outside dining pub is one of the most haunting musical scenes of all time. See more Read all reviews
