A shy and awkward teen being raised by a religious zealot (Julianne Moore), Carrie is frequently the target of bullies. But Carrie has a secret talent: She can make things move with her mind. What to Know

Critics Consensus

It boasts a talented cast, but Kimberly Peirce's "reimagining" of Brian De Palma's horror classic finds little new in the Stephen King novel -- and feels woefully unnecessary.

Carrie resonates for women in particular because it touches on so much of the horror of becoming female that it's almost too real. I love that Kimberly Piece chose to honor that horror faithfully, even if it doesn't make for a radical re-visioning. Go to Full Review

Moretz plays Carrie as either a constantly petrified, meek outcast or a grimacing destroyer. Peirce fails to build a connection between audience and protagonist. Go to Full Review

A tired, unneeded copy of Brian De Palma's far superior work, with the small changes it makes adding nothing of significance. Go to Full Review

It's hard to imagine that what Peirce has cooked up will satisfy those who are looking for more than mere updated special effects. Go to Full Review

Sadly, despite the talent involved in putting this film together, it still all winds up feeling remarkably redundant. We already had a Carrie movie. Go to Full Review

The new Carrie offers no fresh insights into the material and delivers far less than what De Palma achieved both thematically and cinematically. Go to Full Review

KerryWhite's S @KerryWhite77 13 hrs ago Originally: 10/10. 100/100 Now: 7/10. 77/100 I loved this when it first released. Seeing that trailer with her looking at the flag, and using her telekinesis and stuff. It felt like I could do all that and show it off myself I hoped. Especially with my name being Kerry White. And who can forget the promotional viral telekinetic prank video in the coffee shop? Chloe Grace Moretz being my celeb crush during this time. This was the film that started that. It also started my love of Telekinesis and got me back into magic. This was a time that I really fell in love with movies and horror; The Avengers the year before, The Evil Dead on my birthday of this year, The Conjuring, Carrie, Kick-Ass 2 also with Chloe. This was my film awakening lol Funny now that I’m also dating a Chloe. Rewatched with my Mom and girlfriend Chloe Lainhart at home for Halloween. Sometime after me and Chloe watched the new Carrie series. Chloe: 9/10 “Ever since the show, I like that one the best.” Mom: 10/10 See more Nicole N @RT45982998 1 day ago So so bad. The story the characters, the main leading actress she was terrible just terrible. I could’ve played that role better nothing in comparison with the new TV series. Don’t waste your time. Don’t watch this. I cringed like 60 different times. Maybe if the leading actress was somebody else the movie would’ve been watchable but the storyline was very bad also. The book is so much better. See more Angel V @secretangel 1 day ago I don't get the bad reviews, I mean, this could be better with scenes that they cut and having the director's vision. But it still a really interesting film, making the prom scene really powerful and well constructed.
