Attorney Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) is blind, but his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. By day, Murdock represents the downtrodden. At night, he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante, a relentless avenger of justice. When Wilson Fisk (Colin Farrell) hires Bullseye (Michael Clarke Duncan) to kill Daredevil, Murdock must rely on his own senses and search out the conspirators against justice -- which may include his own girlfriend, Elektra (Jennifer Garner).

Critics Consensus

While Ben Affleck fits the role and the story is sporadically interesting, Daredevil is ultimately a dull, brooding origin story that fails to bring anything new to the genre.

Daredevil has a brooding dark and dank air about it, much like Batman. That's about the only element that lends the movie any character.

From start to finish, the film is death-ridden and employs overamplified sound to pump up its many pornographic images.

It isn't a great film, or even a greatly original one. Still, it has many grace notes, and interesting oddities.

Worst of all is the finale, which features a protracted duel with villain Bullseye, utilizing copious amounts of bad CG that cheapens the choreography and any potential for a satisfying demise.

... a strange, sometimes maddening movie. It’s shot with a hyperactive camera that jitters like the Flash on a dozen cups of espresso and written as if the actors were speaking the archly pulp dialogue balloons of a real comic book ...

I watched this after I binge watched Dare Devil the show. It felt like there was too much action and not enough time for character development. Even though the show is light years ahead in quality and story telling, the movie had its own charm and the soundtrack was great and nostalgic to boot. This movie has heavy use of CGI which normally isn't a bad thing but early 2000s CGI looks very dated now and is almost cringeworthy. Not even the show that was released over a decade later uses or relies on this amount of CGI usage. Matt Murdock's back story is pretty consistent with the show but other characters like King Pin, Elektra and Bullseye aren't totally consistent with the story given in the show. Despite all its flaws, I still like the action and whitey 2000s humor. I highly recommend watching the show first and regard the movie as an abridged theatrical version of the DD lore. The show explores lots of character back stories in depth, so the movie will make more sense after.

Very well done. Enjoyed it a lot. "DULL" you say ????🤔 , oh well, perspective might differ. Great cast, all convincing in character. Love the darkness and great cinematography to amplify it, it's what the story is about, isn't it? Ben Affleck shines as Matt Murdock. Lots of action, innovative fight scenes, drama, suspense, emotion, intrigue and twists. Great movie

Dark superhero film was promising, yet falls short. Violence, language, and brief sex scene.

Although a dull version of what could have been, the story was key and exact to the comic books, which I loved!
