SIMAS C @simas_eros 2 days ago Everything is very weak here, and the best thing is the poster, whose visual promise the film never fulfils. Based on the same Schnitzler novella that inspired Eyes Wide Shut, and keeping its original title, it struggles to be appreciated after Kubrick’s masterpiece. The performances are one-dimensional and fail to build tension in key moments (the lead wears the same face expression as on the poster throughout), and the narrative tries to surprise with devices that distract more than they captivate. Above all, it never believes in itself enough to invest in the boldness, depth and innovation that would justify retelling this story in the 21st century. Although the plot remained very close to the original, there were derivations that made the movie interesting enough to watch it through. I was hoping for scenes that took the plot further away from the original - even if we ended up at the same result. Some orignal thought ideas though. Worth the watch. See more Read all reviews
