At a time when many disparage and reject refugees from war and oppression, "Fanny's Journey" is a reminder of the virtues of decency, compassion, and innocence. Go to Full Review

While the entire cast acquits themselves well, the impressive, nuanced camerawork by Pierre Cottereau (who also recently shot Christian Carion's WWII drama Come What May) is the film's strongest technical asset. Go to Full Review

Kevin L @Lakeman 4 days ago Really liked this one. The child actors knocked me out. Souchand, Lepoureau, Lambrecht & Khoury were esp. good. The sense of foreboding danger, the tension of their being caught, is there in the tone through most all of the scenes when they are on the run. The scenes early on, while containing sad moments of family separation, also showed the sincere warmth & dedication their would-be saviors had for them. And then there's the scenes where we see them as genuine kids; laughing as they splash each other in the creek; scared to sleep alone; & attempting to show a brave face as children would, but susceptible to the threats & anger of adults who you may not be able to trust. I feel director Doillon & the co-writer did a fine job of telling this story 94 min. The brevity doesn't hurt it, imo. Felt authentic, good pacing, & a consistent sense that their journey could end for the worse at most any time. Like the ending as well- zig zag. 3.4 stars See more Alain E @AlainE Jul 10, 2026 Another movie perpetrating the myth that Nazis were bad people committing atrocities. A heart-warming story, beautifully acted and created. See more Sheldon O @ShelO Apr 6, 2018 Although the language spoken was French with English captions, the film was easy to understand, the acting was superb by all including the children, the script was based upon a real story during the holocaust and appeared quite realistic, the suspense was intense, the music blended in well, the scenery and photography were beautiful, and the outcome was quite inspirational. Anyone who is unfamiliar with Nazi racism needs to watch this film. See more Read all reviews
