A scruffy superhero named Hancock (Will Smith) protects the citizens of Los Angeles but leaves horrendous collateral damage in the wake of every well-intentioned feat. That's OK with Hancock; he doesn't care what people think and is just as likely to be found dozing on a park bench as saving a damsel in distress. Critics Consensus

Though it begins with promise, Hancock suffers from a flimsy narrative and poor execution.

Some melodrama and a superwoman later, it loses steam. Go to Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian Oct 18, 2008

It becomes an entirely different film, one not really premised on the bad-superhero comedy idea, and the film is then oddly without a sense of humour, and its vague interest in satire vanishes completely. Go to Full Review Peter Rainer Christian Science Monitor Oct 18, 2008

The strain of messianism in Will Smith movies is becoming ever more pronounced. Go to Full Review Akos Peterbencze The Screen Aug 20, 2023
Even though toned and watered down heavily, Hancock’s first hour (the uncut version) still conveys most of the character’s core, and the struggles he faces as a barely tolerated superhero in the streets of Los Angeles. Go to Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Nov 28, 2020

It's the lack of real, substantial solutions for an outlandish fantasy tale that prevents this film from being as extraordinary as Hancock himself. Go to Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Sep 10, 2020

Silly? Sure. However, when Smith's not trying to win Oscars he's practically perfected the art of selling silliness at the box-office. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

alan G @agenser Sep 25, 2026 Drunken superhero interracial coupling foul mouthed movie. Hard pass. See more Deco L @DecoLopez Sep 17, 2026 Filme legal. Gostei, diferente, divertido e deveria ter uma continuação See more Robert P @Superbad Sep 13, 2026 Hancock = a *3* star Movie! See more Romas M @Romas Aug 30, 2026 Greetings from Lithuania. I just came back from a cinema and I can tell you people, this is a hell of a summer movie fun! It's even better than I expected! Will Smith is great as usual. CGI were breathtaking. Jokes are great! And - what a surprise, it's a nice quality drama at a moments. Don't get my wrong - it won't going to win an Oscar for directing, neither for script. But as a summer blockbuster - it's excellent, fun, great ride. Buy the way, it's not your typical "superhero" movie, where the good guy is "pure" and "beautiful" like a Superman. Enjoy! P.S. "Say as...e one more time!!!" See more Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life Aug 2, 2026 This is an underrated classic superhero movie. Will Smith as Hancock delivers some of the best character lines in superhero movie history. The prison scenes are by far the best and throw in Jason Bateman just for more laughs. Although Hancocks intentions are great individually but the results are a lot of destruction. I love this movie and it's to bad we haven't gotten a sequel.
