See more Caverdius L @VERSATILITY_OF_DEFIANCE Dec 8 This film was held together tautly by expert storytelling, direction, writing and acting. The idea of a "suicide house" is unique and unsettling and the atmosphere intensified from one moment to the next. The titular actor (Lukkas Hassel) had just the right macabre delivery & Jesus-like appearance. This was the first time I've seen Gary Clarke outside of his Western roles as a younger man, but he still looks great & played his small part well. The leading actress was riveting & conveyed just the right balance of strength, compassion, terror, & vulnerability. Every moment of her performance was engrossing and internalized with poetic precision. This movie is a terrifying commentary on our troubled times and touches upon the mixed emotions that can come up in a suicidal mind. This is even more relevant as Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands all allow legalized suicide via euthanasia. Overall this film, a product of Austin filmmakers, is much better than the standard Hollywood schlock. See more Ingrid E Nov 27 I found this movie to be well done. I'm not usually a horror fan but this show dealt with some interesting issues that I have not ever seen handled on screen before. The woman who played the sidekick to Abraham was fabulous! The casting overall was spot on. The movie is creepy and designed to be just that. I also appreciated the lighting and the variation between close up and medium shots. Natasha Henstridge is very good. See more Andrew D Nov 25 My son and I watched House of Abraham together, and I wanted to share our very first father-son movie review. We both thought the cast did a fantastic job. The actors’ expressions were clear and pulled us right into the story. The main character was especially strong, and Abraham’s character was played with a lot of depth. The movie held our attention the entire time, plenty of suspense, which we both loved. From a filmmaking perspective, here are a few things we noticed: – The plot was interesting from the start and got better as it went on. – A few of the side characters’ lines felt like they could have been improved, but the older lady’s role was excellent. – The lighting throughout the film was really well done. – The drowning scene didn’t feel totally realistic (although perhaps that was on purpose), but it didn’t take away from the overall story. We both loved the ending. And since this is our first official movie review, we’re excited to give House of Abraham 5 Stars! If this is Lisa Belcher’s first film as a director, she’s incredibly impressive. You can clearly see her talent, and we’re genuinely excited to see what she creates next. See more Fred Z Nov 7 House of Abraham is the type of indie film we all want to make and we love to watch. Great performances all around, interested setup and story, and an all around cool vibe. Lisa Belcher's directing is spot on. She really captures the tone of the film just right. And watching Lukas Hassel, Lin Shaye and Natasha Henstridge compete over who will be the most solid and grounded actor was a lot of fun.
