A competent if rather pointless remake, likely to be more appreciated by those who never saw High Sierra. Go to Full Review

Russ @RT78760655 Feb 11, 2024 Palance CAN act, but still, he's no Bogey. As for Miss Winters, she's younger and a bit slimmer here than 17 years later in "The Poseidon Adventure," but the acting's still hammy. The only real honors for this film belong to our canine star and his handlers. See more Aldo G @RT54480587 Jan 15, 2024 This re-make proves that redoing an excellent film isn't a bad idea. How many times have you wondered how a different actor would have treated a popular role or a another director's vision for a film you like. That's what happens here and it's worth the time. See more j f @LiberteBurrows Jan 14, 2024 A colorized, flashier and less good (in nearly every way), passable remake of High Sierra. Check original first. See more deke p @RT96675217 Oct 25, 2021 1955. PALANCE. I've seen it maybe a time or 2 on TV. SHELLEY WINTERS did her best ... to ruin it. See more Jan 5, 2015 I went into this one rather blind, in that I was expecting a B & W film and got one in color, and I had no idea it was a re-make of an older Humphrey Bogart film. I have to say that I enjoyed it for what it was, with Palance playing a consummate tough guy, and I would like to revisit it after seeing the original. Well worth a look. See more Jun 20, 2014 Unusual given we have no hero here to identify with, however Jack Palance's character has humanistic weaknesses towards his fellow man (and dog) in the first part of the film. The final third of the film feels a lot different as these are swept aside to be able to conclude the crime story. See more Read all reviews
