Brilliant parapsychologist Elise Rainier receives a disturbing phone call from a man who claims that his house is haunted. Even more disturbing is the address -- 413 Apple Tree Lane in Five Keys, N.M. -- the home where Elise grew up as a child. Accompanied by her two investigative partners, Rainier travels to Five Keys to confront and destroy her greatest fear -- the demon that she accidentally set free years earlier.

Critics Consensus

Insidious: The Last Key offers franchise star Lin Shaye another welcome opportunity to take the lead, but her efforts aren't enough to rescue this uninspired sequel.

Director Adam Robitel creates a tone unlike anything his predecessors generated; mournful yet warm, the movie engenders sympathy for the characters even as the action turns somber or gruesome.

Overall this is a predictable horror movie that relies on jump scares rather than mental darkness. Insidious may have run its course.

The film takes its sweet time in getting started, with an opening hour that tests the viewer’s patience and suffers from a distinct lack of suspense. When matters shift suddenly – and potently – it is a different matter.

3.9/10 Insidious franchise movie, Haunting / supernatural Not good Rural haunted home in NM near prison. Dad was a prison guard and didn't let daughter speak about her visions. Choppy and kind of corny. Too supernatural to be captivating or scary.

It seems Elise Rainer is the main focus for these stories. The last keys really means the last. The last of the prequel era & focusing on what came after 2013. At first, I think the FX seem so exciting; I enjoy how keys are tied to the fingers for an effective villain. The plot twists were possibly interesting too - the girl being a revealed a boy? But, you could tell the movie's quality. I started to get bored & was distracted by my phone. Possibly, it means that it is formulaic & therefore it gets no good scores. Should "Insidious" have stood on its own? A born franchise should not be a gimmick

Another prequel that just feels bland and boring. This film has some really great jump scares, but most of this movie is just slow and drawn out and boring. I wanted to like this, but it doesn’t have enough to keep you interested and feel enthralled. I do like the demons’ look in this film; he’s especially terrifying, but other than that, this movie is pretty boring.
