This sweet, confection is firmly set in the 1970's. It is a fanciful, comic retelling of the Joseph story from the Bible. It was okay, but I feel the same way about JATC that I felt about West Side Story, the subject material does not mesh with the tone. The themes of forgiveness, atonement, jealousy and honor get muddled in this strange musical. The music was good. I also have a soft spot for this adaptation as it got me through some hard times as a kid. With brilliant, upbeat music from Andrew Lloyd Webber and catchy lyrics by Tim Rice, Donny Osmond leads a superb ensemble in adapting this beloved Broadway show for the silver screen. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the school play aspect. They could have made this into a real world musical.
