Shana C @SuabNag 9h Journey from the Fall follows the eyes of a Vietnamese family around the time of the Fall of Saigon. It is a story of survival and memory. This film is authentic and approach the experiences of many Vietnamese refugees in a respectable way. With perspectives of how each generation navigates through escaping and resettling, I get to understand their stories and history. I saw the resilience of people who carried their past across oceans and rebuilt their lives. From re-education camps, escaping by boat, to family separation and trauma, it encourages me to have more conversations with my elders about their life. The actors in this film were amazing, the emotions strongly traveled through my screen. The word "Hope" was repeatedly expressed. My favorite scene from this film was the Kite scene near the end as I interpret it as having hope and moving forward. I am reminded of how impactful it is to be heard and listen to. See more P9 h @Pbpbp99 21h Journey from the fall that was directed by Ham Tran it was a story about Vietnamese family and the accents they faced after the fall of Saigon in 1975.so really what happened was when North Vietnam took over the south and a lot of Vietnamese soldiers from the south were sent to reeducation camps and while others tried to escape this documentary shows a family who is experiencing both of these sides. In the documentary the husband of the family was taken to one of these re education camps and at this camp he faced many things like political punishment and even very harsh conditions. And while the husband was dealing with this his wife was really struggling to stay alive and at one point she couldn’t take it anymore so she tried to escape with the kid. Which this showed the experience that the people trying to escape by boat had who were leaving Vietnam in these terrible condition during the 70’s where they seen and experienced stuff I could never imagine. The film has significant educational value because of the historical background of political incarceration, forced labor camps, and refugee migration. I especially liked the film's use of two points of view to present opposing viewpoints on the same historical event. The emotional impact is increased and the audience is better able to comprehend how political unrest and separation affects entire families rather than just individuals when events are seen from both points of view. Overall, it is a moving historical drama that deepens our understanding of the resilience and postwar Vietnamese diaspora. See more Henry C @calgerh 21h Beautiful movie, does a wonderful job telling the untold stories of the Vietnam War. The performances were excellent, the pacing was perfect, and the way it cut back and forth between the husband and the rest of his family to reinforce the tragedy to the viewers was awesome. The movie jumps around many different points in time from scene to scene which was a little hard to follow at times, but it usually ended up showing something that heavily hinted at or outright confirmed when a scene was through things like reincorporation (e.g. seeing the husband receive letters from his son and then seeing the son writing/drawing them later on). Overall, the movie wonderfully shows how difficult it was for Vietnamese immigrants not just to make it to the US, but even just to stay here. It's a great depiction of a really important time in history, and I hope it is never forgotten. See more Read all reviews
