Jagdpanzer T @RT44446946 4 days ago Another bog-standard folk horror movie, devoid of scares and very slow. Here the local pagans are once again committing heinous acts in exchange for... you guessed it... a bountiful harvest. It's as if they've never discovered fertilizer. The main character - a female reverend - is about as effective in her role as you might expect, which is to say not at all. She spends the entire movie in a state of bewilderment with a stunned look on her face after discovering that everyone is a cultist. The problem is she makes this discovery over and over again. Like every other scene from the second act forward she finds new evidence of this, and every single time she reacts as if it's the first. She's utterly useless and ineffectual and handles each encounter like a junior social worker. Her husband is even worse actually. The big pay off at the end is a really on-the-nose bit of girl bossing that made this feel like "Girl Boss: An Origin Story". BunBun survived though, and that's what counts. The girl is chosen to be the “Harvest Angel” in the harvest festival that praises the pagan god Gallowgog to protect their plantation. Out of the blue, Grace disappears in the woods and the police and the residents organize a search party to look for her. But when Becca confronts the local Jocelyn Abney (Ralph Ineson), she suspects that he daughter was abducted by people that worship Gallowgog and unravels secrets of the villagers. “Lord of Misrule” (2023) is a disappointing British/Irish horror movie directed by William Brent Bell. It is a pity, since British and Irish folklores are rich, but the screenplay and the story are very poor. From the beginning the viewer knows who abducted Grace and the story does not surprise anybody. There are several other movies with similar stories, like "The Wicker Man" (1973). In addition, the conclusion is silly and not good. My vote is five.
