Critics Consensus

The material is too thin for feature-length and the jokes are socially outdated and clueless.

Marci X, though, is just clueless and sad, seemingly having missed the point that hip-hop is no longer a novelty to be slapped on the cheek with a white glove.

Rudnick can be an extraordinarily clever writer, but he doesn't seem to understand that a screenplay has to entail more than a series of skit ideas strung together.

The running theme through "Marci X" is, "You've got to be real." But there's nothing real about the characters in this dismal comedy. Even as a satire, it fails because the filmmakers don't understand the subject they're satirizing.

Here's a film that proves no matter how talented the performers, if the script is junk, then the final result will be junk.

This is a messy disaster at which you can only scratch your head and mutter, "What were they thinking?"

I was a bit shocked at how corny some of the scenes got. It shocks even more that something like this could get a green light and actually get made.
