Critics Consensus

Marie Curie: The Courage of Knowledge may test the patience of some viewers with its deliberate pacing, but this sensitively made biopic has its well-acted rewards.

Noëlle has a dreamy visual style that pulls us into Marie's emotional reality, and we find ourselves captivated by this fascinating, pioneering woman.

... biopic of a French icon that's beautifully photographed, sensitively acted and punishingly dull.

A fascinating life is reduced to a series of skittishly edited and visually stylised vignettes that do scant justice to Marie Curie's scientific achievements and Karolina Gruszka's laudably intense performance.

Talk about an exquisite film! Visually stunning. Fascinating story and solidly engaging construct.

It is the sort of film that manages to incorporate languid baths and a duel (!) with obtuse conversations with Einstein and an overt feminist message.

I didn't know Marie Curie's story before this movie. This film wet my appetite to learn more about her and more about her discoveries. She was a passionate woman who lived her life to the fullest. The movie could have focused less on her personal love life and more on her discoveries and values. The movie is in French and often the subtitles are written in white lettering on a white background, difficult to see. Worthwhile movie!

This wasn't Greer Garson's "Madame Curie" MGM 1943. Feminism & Marie's sexuality along with her scientific brilliance make up this interesting movie. Not knowing much about the Curies, I know a bit more and will investigate. (Marie won Nobel prizes in chemistry & physics; first woman to win a Nobel and only person to win two. Her daughter Irene also won a Nobel in chemistry.)
