TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 23h Mean Boys had the potential to tell an engaging LGBTQ+ thriller, but it never lives up to its premise. I have no issue with LGBTQ+ films when they focus on meaningful characters, authentic relationships, or real struggles. The same goes for any romance. Unfortunately, this movie relies far too heavily on lust instead of developing a compelling story. Rather than building suspense around its murder mystery, it repeatedly shifts the focus back to sexual situations that add very little to the plot. The screenplay misses several opportunities to create stronger character development and emotional depth, leaving the story feeling shallow. While the cast puts in effort, the script doesn’t give them enough substance to make the characters memorable or believable. Overall, Mean Boys feels more interested in shock value than storytelling, making it a disappointing experience that never reaches the level it could have.
