See more Wayne M @Wayne93 Jul 28 Mexico 86 is a light and breezy film about the 1986 Mexico World Cup and the lead up to it. It moves along at a good pace and even though not very deep or profound it does it best to be entertaining. The central character in the film is a fictional amalgam of characters. Martin De La Torre works for the Mexican Football Federation and after Colombia pulls out of the 1986 Cup he works hard to enable Mexico to win the bid. The film deftly goes behind the scenes as we see many elements of corruption in the decision process. Of course Mexico triumphs and the film continues through to the eventful drama that occurred in Mexico in 1986. The main reason to watch is the charismatic performance from Diego Luna. He is superb as always in a fairly light film that is nevertheless quite charming. That there is corruption in FIFA is not news, and the process of hosting didn't have much to it to shock or surprise. The movie is only entertaining due to the characterization of some of the people involved.
