Vinicius M @Vini_Monteiro Sep 24, 2026 Taking Mortal Kombat out of its mystical tournaments and dropping it into a Mad Max-style wasteland ruled by an aging Kano is a bold move. It’s a breath of fresh air that highlights characters like Kenshi, a blind swordsman, and a reluctant Sub-Zero. However, this shift alienates hardcore fans, feeling disconnected from the franchise's lore. The movie suffers heavily from pacing issues; the middle drags endlessly with Kenshi whining and Sub-Zero refusing to fight, making an 80-minute runtime feel exhausting. While the voice acting is surprisingly strong and adds genuine emotional weight, the technical side drops the ball. The animation is cheap and stiff, fight scenes are ruined by chaotic editing, and classic villains are wasted as cannon fodder for empty gore. Scorpion's late cameo also feels like cheap bait. Ultimately, it’s a brave concept dragged down by poor pacing and weak visual execution. What Worked: The Mad Max-style wasteland aesthetic gives the R-rated combat a tactile weight. Through my Faith Methodism lens, seeing Kuai Liang mentor Kenshi reminds me that true grace means guiding the next generation. Ehrenreich’s editing and the heavy score also give the blind fight sequences a super dynamic flow. The Cuts: The middle really dragged for me; desert wandering and training montages stall the momentum. Keeping it spoiler-free, using classic Black Dragon members just for quick fodder leaves the villains feeling half-baked. Plus, suddenly introducing alternate timelines feels super rushed and disjointed from the grounded wasteland vibe. Verdict: A striking survival story. Perfect for a gritty take on classic fighters, but skip if you want a standard tournament plot. A little confusing figuring out what it is they’re trying to do with this one but once you get your grip on it figure out it’s a one off in the series it was a lot more fun. The western Scorpion saying “Get Over Here” Ala Clint Eastwood it frickin’ rules. Buen ritmo, con el nivel de animación que ya venían teniendo, historia simple pero bien llevada por personajes bien desarrollados (especialmente el protagonista y su mentor). Me dejo mas que conforme. See more Bamo j @bambam620 Aug 12, 2025 Flimy chaka 99% great movie See more Read all reviews
