Tj B @RT77549479 Jul 23 I understand what they wanted to do with this film. It don’t work and they shouldn’t have tried. The replacing of Evelyn in this with a different actress is obvious and it just doesn’t feel right in any way. The mummy this time around, played by Jet li, is just the avatar controlling the elements. This movie is stain on what was a great set of movies before it. It isn’t nearly in their class however. Several story beats are questionable as to why someone would think we’d want to see this in a movie called "the mummy". The story itself is fine but Rachel Weiss is Evy and she alone embodies this strong, enigmatic librarian heroine. It was annoying that they changed the actress for Evy, the new one is so much worse. The only cast member putting any real effort in was Brendan Fraser. It does look great and has some fun action scenes but it is far too long and not especially fun. See more Benjamin W. @Code70 May 5 Brendon Frasier’s Mummy movie trilogy is quite an odd piece of cinema. None of them are without their fair share of flaws, but they definitely vary in quality, I’d argue in a downward trajectory. The first one is just an entertaining popcorn flick with come campy fun, the second is technically poor sequel, but one that retains the charm of the original and is at times so crazy it’s actually good. This one just kinda… blows. It’s cool to see Brendon Frasier back at it, but without Rachel Weisz as Evelyn and Stephen Sommars in the director position, it lacks that campy nature that made the first two so watchable. It also just feels like we’ve lost the plot a little bit. Like, this time we’re in England and the mummy is that an ancient Chinese warrior? Isn’t this supposed to be Egyptian mythology? Also, the cg effects, even for 2008, were NOT good. There’s also quite a bit of bad dialogue, and the story isn’t nearly as engaging this time around. It’s not awful.
