When Kermit the Frog and friends start a stage act, they decide to take the show from their college town to Broadway. However, once The Muppets wind up in New York City, they have difficulty finding financial support for the production, instead running into cheats like Murray Plotsky. Unable to stage the show, the group splits up, and they all take different jobs around the country. Just as Kermit thinks he has finally found a backer, an accident gives him amnesia.

If it's not quite as sharp as The Muppet Movie, The Muppets Take Manhattan is still a smart, delightfully old-fashioned tale that follows the formula established by the first two movies -- a madcap adventure assisted by a huge group of human stars.

The Muppets Take Manhattan is a merry remake of any movie in which Mickey Rooney, Eddie Bracken, or Gene Kelly said to Judy Garland "C'mon, my dad says we can use the barn for our show."

Overall, even though there are some areas that did not quite soar in terms of an exciting and engaging plot, The Muppets Take Manhattan still has some delightful moments that will entertain fans of the show.

A black sheep in terms of Muppet movies, "The Muppets Take Manhattan" is unique from the first two Muppet films in that it has the Muppets go up against the odds of life as opposed to a centralized villain. As is per usual with Muppet films, the gags are subtle and witty, the practical effects are indeed impressive, and the musical numbers are all-around enjoyable. It is rather surprising how little this film comes up whenever the Muppets as a franchise is discussed, despite being an extremely worthy installment.

The practical affects are good for the time it was made and it also shows the ingenuity of the creators and all of the crew involved.The story is well thought out .

The weakest film in the quote-unquote "original trilogy", The Muppets Take Manhattan isn't as good as The Muppet Movie or as hilarious as The Great Muppet Caper, possibly owing to the film's comparatively darker tone but it's still a fun watch thanks to its enjoyable songs, talented puppeteers, jokes that generally stick the landing (mostly where Miss Piggy is concerned), human actors playing well off of Kermit & Co., good messages about following your dreams (true, it's clichéd but Frank Oz does a good job here executing these lessons) and the debut of the Muppet Babies. I have no interest in seeing either cartoon but in that musical number, despite stopping the plot dead in its tracks, the little baby versions of Jim Henson's iconic comedic troupe look adorable. All in all, still an above-average Muppet film in its own right, just not as well-structured or as memorable as its predecessors or even Disney's 2010s duology.
