What to Know

Critics Consensus

If it's not quite as sharp as The Muppet Movie, The Muppets Take Manhattan is still a smart, delightfully old-fashioned tale that follows the formula established by the first two movies -- a madcap adventure assisted by a huge group of human stars.

Everett P @RT92585922 Aug 10, 2026 A great muppets movie “ocean breeze soap, just like sailing but without the boat and you don’t get anywhere” See more Michael M. @MikeFM Jun 12, 2026 Very enjoyable film! Great and memorable soundtrack! See more D3Z 1 @RT51637195 Feb 3, 2026 Overall, even though there are some areas that did not quite soar in terms of an exciting and engaging plot, The Muppets Take Manhattan still has some delightful moments that will entertain fans of the show. See more Adam N @RT93209334 Jan 27, 2026 A black sheep in terms of Muppet movies, "The Muppets Take Manhattan" is unique from the first two Muppet films in that it has the Muppets go up against the odds as opposed to a centralized villain. As is per usual with Muppet films, the gags are subtle and witty, the practical effects are most impressive, and the musical numbers are all-around enjoyable. Director Frank Oz showcases his wonderful knack for character development, especially considering this was his first solo directorial outing. It is rather surprising how little this film comes up whenever the Muppets as a franchise is discussed, despite being an extremely worthy installment.
