The film feels like one of those quick and easy reads you’d pick up at an airport bookstore on your way to your flight. But when you finally find your seat and excitedly crack open the book, it’s maybe a little too breezy as a page turner.

Director Stephen Shimek and screenwriter Mark Brennan don’t overexert themselves by any means with this cozy mystery that could have used a whole lot more fizz to it.

Whether the series continues from here is sort of an open question, but if it does, maybe the filmmakers can finally figure out a way to do justice to the character.

Murder at the Embassy plods through its lukewarm revelations. The central mystery has neither legs nor an interesting follow-through, and its low-key nature suffers from slow pacing.

[W]hat's missing seems to be some sense of personality to the characters and material, which is never developed in the movie's hurry to get to the plot.

It was okay. It had its moments of quirky charm but it just didn’t tickle me the way I need to be tickled.

The lead is the problem, accent irritating, delivery irksome, poise leaden, charisma absent, overall performance amateur. The story is bad enough and the support pretty woeful, it looks like am-dram cos play, and even in that the lead makes the most glamorous outfit look like sack cloth.

I normally watch all movies between 5-7 AM having breakfast, drinking coffee, eating toast, looking out at the garden, watching the birds, so it's a chill time of day for me. My movie reviews are based only upon "how much was I entertained and liked what I was seeing". Not critical of much else, because I don't make movies, they do, and I don't know how to do that. Murder At The Embassy was soft and easy to watch. I don't know anything about the books it was based upon but Mischa Barton did a good job keeping my interest. I don't know if it was green screen, but those outdoor near the pyramids shots were fantastic. I would not watch it a second time, but I enjoyed this movie.

If there was an award for wooden acting and sever lack of personality this would win hands down . Actually nodded off for 10minutes and missed nothing Main detective is so lack of any character that replacing her with a lettuce would have saved a few quid. The rest of the cast awful. Best actor is the dog A very poor man’s Agatha Christie and to be honest on these days of energy prices don’t waste good electricity on this dross.
