Jane S @JaneSane 2d First off, this film is hilarious dry deadpan. It is a subtly absurd mockery of patriarchy and the very idea of wealth inheritance. The pacing is comfortingly slow, the atmosphere is beautiful 30s horror graveside and a candlelit mansion. The dialogue is efficient and clever. I’ve been watching this on repeat for days now and it just gets better. This film was way ahead of its time! Also it’s super satisfying if you are a woman who likes to see men blunder around like dummies (finally! Most films from this era are misogynistic), this one is somewhat of a correction with an imperfect ending but I have to settle considering our world built on slavery and oppressive laws. This film breathes, there’s no music, and it doesn’t force anything down your throat either. Brilliant performances all around, but especially genius from Lilyan Tashman. See more Read all reviews
