Critics Consensus

The Nanny Diaries' miscast lead and unrealistic, one-dimensional characters make this class satire far less effective than it should've been.

What is this film about? Nothing. It's senseless and horrid, patronising to all women everywhere, and extremely tiresome.

Here's hoping that the very talented [Shari] Springer [Berman] and [Robert] Pulcini get a crack at a script that's worthy of their talents for their third time at bat.

If you have a cast which includes Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti, you ought to give them something better to work with than this botched adaptation.

The real tragedy of this film's utter mediocrity is that it masks a marvelous performance from Laura Linney.

I really liked this movie and I'm not a Scarlett Johansson fan, I can't stand her face. Laura Linney's acting was so good and there were no boring parts. The movie is about Scarlett's relationship with the boy and it's touching at times. The ending is good advice to the mom. I would rewatch this movie!

A Sra.

I really loved the little romance between Chris Evan’s and Scarlett Johansson I wished they focused more on that but was really good. Loved the way the boy got what he wanted in the end.

I liked the story. I think the movie explores a real situation (at least in a part of the world) and how nannies struggle between lovely kids and detached parents.

It gets tiresome after a while, because they didn’t have the sense to limit the exaggerations. In the beginning, the nanny enters the fabulous apartment of her employer and assumes that the master bedroom and bath is her quarters. Really? I abandoned it at the first commercial break.
