Critics Consensus

Paper Towns isn't as deep or moving as it wants to be, yet it's still earnest, well-acted, and thoughtful enough to earn a place in the hearts of teen filmgoers of all ages.

I like everything about Paper Towns except for its premise and central romance. Yes, I know those sort of seem like dealbreakers, but the things I liked about Paper Towns marginally outweighed the things I didn't like. Marginally.

'Paper Towns' may well be the Manic Pixie Dream Girl's nadir.

The film is thankfully shorn of the sentimentality which weighed down The Fault in Our Stars.

There's a germ of an idea in Paper Towns' romanticized adolescence but that germ quickly grows into a virus. By the time the third act has rolled along, that virus has metastasized into a full-blown cinematic cancer.

The cast brings the material to life, breathing life into a story that is simultaneously overwritten and under realised.

Paper Towns is a coming-of-age film that doesn't always get it right. But, when it does, it transcends the message across quite evidently.

Typical John Green movie. Teenage angst mixed with predictable twists. Cute background watch.

I genuinely admire the courage of anyone who read the book and still chose to watch the film.

Paper Towns lacks the emotional cohesion and compelling pacing of other John Green adaptations, but its admirable and often even profound social commentary, braced by a humor that flits evenly between edgy and warm, allows it to stand as a fulfilling--if not powerful--teen summer movie.

Paper Towns doesn't have anything to do with the direction or script, the only thing I didn't like was the way the story unfolded, which got quite tiring and lost. Rating 4.0

May not be great but it's "still pretty something".
