Benjamin W @Code70 1 day ago I had a lot of fun with it, but… this isn’t a Paranormal Activity movie. It took a while to hook me, but once it did, I had a lot of fun. The wintry Amish atmosphere in the woods is one I enjoyed, and thought made for an effectively creepy setting. I liked the characters, it has a slickness to it that I found refreshing, and as an occult film about this devil-worshipping “Amish” community, I thought it worked well enough. But what kinda kills the movie is that it’s a Paranormal Activity film. It’s the seventh entry in that franchise. And there’s hardly any “paranormal activity” to be seen. Like, yeah, there’s some demon stuff, but it’s more tied to the sacrifices being made by this cult than necessarily a hidden evil being caught on camera like the other ones. So… it’s just not a Paranormal Activity movie. Like I said, as an occult horror film, I liked it enough, I had fun with it. But as a Paranormal Activity movie, it’s very confusing, and doesn’t give you a proper experience. See more Alex B @AlexBioni Sep 30, 2026 Dale's Crime of a Hair Cut I actually really like this one. I am unapologetically terrified of the Amish, so this one hits. I like the story about a young girl trying to learn about her family and what happened to her mother. We learn her family is Amish, and she wants to understand her family. Then we get into the sinister aspects of this community and its secrets. I love the setting and that this isn't a straight up ghost horror movie. I liked the mystery and where we end up. It reminds me of Midsommar, just not as good. I like how it moves away from the main Paranormal Activity lore and gives us something fresh. The first half builds the mystery well, then the second half goes crazy. They don't really explain what's going on, which is a bummer. Some jump scares are stupid, like the motel bathroom window and the kid outside with the generator. The opening is weak too. In true Paranormal Activity fashion, they keep things vague. My biggest issue is Dale's CRIME OF A HAIR CUT. What Worked: • The snowy, isolated farm setting gives creepy folk-horror vibes I totally dug. • The slick documentary camera gear makes everything look genuinely gorgeous. • The wild demon-pit sequence at the end gave me some solid adrenaline. The Friction: • It ditches classic security camera scares, feeling like a totally different movie. • The story dragged a ton in the middle, making pacing super sluggish for me. • The loud monster chase ending lost that suffocating, unseen dread. Verdict: It’s meh. Watch for creepy cult vibes. Skip if reboots ignoring original lore annoy you. The mystery and atmosphere work well, especially in the final act, and the polished visuals are impressive. The slow first half, inconsistent found-footage style, and lack of genuinely scary moments hold it back. Still, I liked the different approach. See more Banff 9 @Banff98 Aug 16, 2026 Para-LAME-AL Activity. Completely disjointed mess of a movie whose laughable ending seemed like it got detached from another film. Is this what passes for scripts and screenplays these days? This would be a prime candidate for Mystery Science Theatre 3000. See more Read all reviews
