Benjamin W @Code70 Oct 9, 2026 This is really, really feeling played out by this point. I enjoyed the first three enough, particularly one and three, which were both solid uses of the found-footage subgenre, as well as effectively creepy and solidly entertaining. Four wasn’t terrible, but you started to feel some diminishing returns. The Marked Ones marks the point (heh) where this franchise has fully become a victim of sequelitis and diminishing returns. The change in setting felt fresh enough, and there’s some decent ideas in here kind of expanding off the lore of the third movie. But it isn’t executed very well, and at some points it just becomes flat-out ridiculous. Like, the main character here basically gets super powers for a stretch. All leading to a climax that, once again, just has everyone trapped in a house, with the worst possible thing happening to everyone as it ends. It’s just getting tiring. I’ve enjoyed the majority of the franchise up till this point, but I think it officially lost me here. See more Alex B @AlexBioni Sep 30, 2026 The Marked Kids This one is strange because it's more about a kid getting superpowers and pulling hair out of his eyes than being a horror ghost movie. It has some good moments, but it feels very different from the other movies. That's not necessarily bad, but I'm not sure it's a good thing either. It definitely borrows from Chronicle and V/H/S. I like the lore surrounding The Marked Ones, and I really liked the ending sequence and how it ties into the other movies. I also liked the different setting, with a cult in LA trying to find these marked kids. Although, how realistic is any of this? The characters were likable, and I thought all the performances were well done. The pacing was kind of all over the place again. It has some good moments, but honestly, it's kind of forgettable, just like the last one. Overall, I liked this more than Part 4, but I liked it more when I saw it in theaters. Years later, after a rewatch, it's just fine. See more Nathan J @TribianiRamoray Sep 25, 2026 Rated: 5.2/10 ⭐️ I wanted to see how this spinoff connects to the lore. It’s meh; the apartment complex is a cool switch-up, but loses that isolated dread. What Worked: • Jesse goofing with his new powers is super fun and a fresh twist. • The gritty apartment setting and creepy downstairs neighbor is a vibe I totally dug. • The crazy time-travel tie-in to the first movie totally blew my mind. The Friction: • The action-packed shootout ending felt super out of place for me. • Jumpscares felt recycled, relying way too much on sudden loud noises. • The middle really dragged for me while they just messed around with levitation. Verdict: It’s meh. Watch for wild lore connections. Skip if action endings annoy you. See more Leonard E @RT22414378 Sep 20, 2026 Very very slow, dragging, often boring and dull. Takes a long time for things to finally start happening, and when it does its underwhelming, not scary at all. Theres a lot of unnecessary scenes that dont relate to the plot at all. Theres also a lot of forced humor and it just doesnt land. No likable characters really, everyone is annoying and they all make dumb decisions.
