I saw this one first when I was young and even after I saw the legendary Psycho, this sequel is one of the rare films that is good as the original. The score by Jerry Goldsmith doesn't just add to the suspense, but focuses on Norman's struggling with his humanity. But after seeing Psycho II called underrated so often, I gave it a chance. I like Norman's development. He's released from prison and trying to change, but his trauma returns. A twist halfway through caught me off guard. I like the mystery of who's behind everything: Norman, Mary, someone else, or a ghost? There's little violence, but a knife scene in the basement near the end shocked me. The blood in the toilet was cool. Mary's acting is fine, though some lines feel awkward. Not much happens, since this is more a character study of Norman and the original's aftermath. Norman and Mary's relationship feels weird given their age gap. Conversations about Mother get repeated too often. I saw the ending coming, but thought it was fine. Overall, it's worth seeing, and I'm glad I watched it. It's not as good as the original, but it's original in its own way. Anthony Perkins is still good in this one and his uh other cast members as well do a good job in the film. But pretty much the same storyline just different characters and so nothing really to write home about. But you gotta love the franchise the original 1 original idea Alfred Hitchcock doesn’t get any better than that.All in all I would recommend this one the people who like horror films still definitely worth the watch. See more Justin W @RT37619642 Oct 8, 2026 The pressure of following up a Hitchcock film like Psycho would have been a really difficult thing, but Tom Holland and Richard Franklin pulled off the impossible and made one excellent and wholly unique film. Psycho II is truly a wild ride that keeps you guessing the entire film unsure of who is actually crazy and who is really doing the murders. This in itself is a feat considering the lead character is Norman Bates. Totally different vibe and feel as the original, but an excellent film nonetheless. Highly recommended.
