Critics Consensus

Ravenous tries bringing cannibal horror into an Old West setting, ending up with an uneven blend that will fail to satisfy most fans of either genre.

Ravenous will doubtless find some sort of cult following, but that cult will be following a lousy, ill-conceived movie.

Antonia Bird's pitch black comedy is a patchily hilarious triumph. But the queasy and squeamish have been warned.

Ravenous is a stupid black comedy set in the same place and the same year but more a Western version of Night of the Living Dead.

Fans of Hannibal will enjoy the mordant humor and gross, yet slick visuals (and its allusions to the Wendigo myth).

That a major studio (20th Century-Fox) gave this a wide release, despite its gonzo premise and lack of stars, is heartening; that this noble experiment has tanked on arrival is discouraging

Fascinating is how Ravenous occupies various genres throughout and yet never completely gives in to any one of them—it's a ride in that sense.

The pacing, suspense and Native American folklore draw you in, the soundtrack and setting are horribly eerie, but the performances and psychological aspect are what made me hunger for more after it was over. I appreciated how behind every decision there is skeptical reasoning, but in the end, it is left to instinct and thirst. Better yet, this movie was directed by a lady, which I love to see for the horror genre!

Haha what a film. 58% from the critics, that's at least 32% too low. Another great example of why you can't trust wokey woke critics ! I loved every minute of it. There are so many different layers to the film and it is such a unique ride. You kind of predict what is going to happen and you are never completely right. When you add in the banging soundtrack it completes one of the best horror movies you will ever see. Damon Albarn can certainly make a tune. Watch it. Do it now.

A woefully underrated gem of the horror genre. It's a wild ride that's well worth taking.

Ravenous is underrated by critics because they only like films of a certain formula that tend to be boring and predictable. This film is more than satire and has many elements that add to the ambiance, plot and characters. Female director with only one female character that understands that all the men are crazy. Group of war rejects put in one camp together. What could go wrong? Soundtrack is stellar and adds to the creep value. If you like horror period pieces and men lusting over human flesh then you will love this film.
