Instead of how this common Scottish family reawakened Bruce’s spirit, it comes across more like how Bruce mended this family, which feels counterproductive to what the film was aiming for.

It’s too bad this movie was set to come out in the US during Covid. I hadn’t heard about it but watched it on TV this weekend and it captured my attention. Continuing after Braveheart but definitely different. Still worth a watch! Compelling characters and good cinematography.

I usually love historic Scottish/medieval dramas, but this slow moving, obviously low budget affair is tiresome as it spends most of the movie time, wallowing on the care the main character experiences from a poor rural family (and beautiful young lady) before he musters an army to take back Scotland. That is, you never see the big event, get a full scope of what the historic battle meant for Scotland or details of how it happens. Disappointing waste of an evening. Better to rewatch Braveheart again.

Good acting, great music, got me somewhat invested in the characters, made me feel a bit. Too long, occasionally dragging, veery light on the action department, and would like little more Bruce on the screen. Onewatchmovie 6+/10
