Housewife and mother Ruth Patchett (Roseanne Barr), an overweight and unkempt woman, can seem to do nothing to make her husband, Bob (Ed Begley Jr.), happy. When he becomes embroiled in an affair with romance novelist Mary Fisher (Meryl Streep), Patchett does all she can to ignore it until Bob finally leaves her for Fisher. Bent on revenge, Patchett begins an intricate undertaking that will lead to the destruction of all that Bob holds dear -- and she also has plans for Fisher while she's at it.

An afternoon movie classic. I love this kind of elaborate revenge that doesn't require getting one's hands dirty. Ruth is the victim, but also the villain, if you consider that she too used people—Hooper's money and the positions held by the women she hired—for her own benefit. In other words: do the ends justify the means, or not?

Um filme pensado como "trash"; mas produzido como "campeão de bilheteria". Subestimado e destratado tanto pelo público quanto pela crítica, devolveu em bilheteria o seu custo de produção; e a performance de Meryl Streep foi indicada ao Globo de Ouro. Esse é um filme para os que gostam da "jornada da catarse": a vingança construída em paciência e etapas; e atrelando humor ao caminho. Recomendo. (A film conceived as "trash" but produced as a "blockbuster." Underestimated and mistreated by both audiences and critics, it recouped its production costs at the box office; and Meryl Streep's performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination. This is a film for those who enjoy the "journey of catharsis": revenge built with patience and stages, and incorporating humor along the way. I recommend it.)

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom, e a rosseane barr é fraca com protagonista

Under-rated re-imagining of the British drama series "LIFE AND LOVES OF A SHE-DEVIL"(a must-see if you can find it). Wonderful cast! I've seen it several times.
