Long-settled into married life and fully domesticated, Shrek begins to long for the days when he felt like a real ogre. Duped into signing a contract with devious Rumpelstiltskin, he finds himself in an alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin rules, and he and Fiona have never met. Shrek must find a way out of the contract to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

Who wouldn't get tired of life when you have got three pooping, peeing, puking ugly little green F-bombs constantly ruining your eye-tini and sleep? This movie takes the classic 'be careful what you wish for' turn. Although it does not particularly feel particularly Shreky, it is entertaining. The animation is beautiful, the voice acting is top-tier and the music is the cherry on top. However, the story lacks the legendary over-the-top humour and seems bland and serious as opposed to how Shrek is. It takes a dark turn and forgets that it is a part of the funniest DreamWorks' franchise.

It’s A Wonderful Life-esque conclusion isn’t great, but satisfies enough. Shrek Forever After is a much stronger entry than Shrek the Third, and works better as a sequel to these characters, and as an emotional, satisfactory conclusion to this series. Still, I wouldn’t say it’s a return to form, as it’s still not nearly as smart or funny as the first two, and at times feels like it’s trying very hard to do what the first two did so effortlessly. But though the franchise may evidently be past its prime, this was a solid enough extension.

Synopsis
