The third in a series of films featuring François Truffaut's alter-ego, Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud), the story resumes with Antoine being discharged from military service. His sweetheart Christine's (Claude Jade) father lands Antoine a job as a security guard, which he promptly loses. Stumbling into a position assisting a private detective, Antoine falls for his employers' seductive wife, Fabienne (Delphine Seyrig), and finds that he must choose between the older woman and Christine.

Stolen Kisses is a fine feature follow-up to The 400 Blows, transforming Antoine Doinel into a sympathetic, silly, and romantic figure that carries to the series' end.

By almost almost any standards but those he has already set, François Truffaut has an enormous new success in Stolen Kisses. It's certainly an entertaining movie... By no stretch of any romantic's imagination, though, is Stolen Kisses a great film.

NYT 1000 Films. Arguably the most enjoyable of the three films with its focus on Doinel and his career growth / struggles trying the army, night watchman, and as a private investigator. Of course it’s comedic in its approach and uniquely French, but it entertains. Saw on box.

There seem to be more private detectives in Paris than anywhere else in the world. The plot meanders along; it's once again about love and all sorts of entanglements. But: it's simply fun to watch Antoine Doinel on his journey through life.

Child sociopath Doinel keeps on spooking people as a young man,but no one seems to mind. Genius Truffaut makes fun of ordinary folks like us,but we also don't mind. Not a masterpiece as Day for Night,yet far better movie they make today.
