While working part-time as a food deliveryman, Antoine, an aspiring young rapper from the suburbs of Paris, meets Mrs. Loyseau, an eminent teacher at the Paris Opéra. Stunned by the young man's raw talent, she introduces him to the world of opera. As Antoine becomes one of Mrs. Loyseau's students, he hides his new dream from his friends and family, fearing that they won't understand -- this double life burdens him... Somewhere in between the gilded and uptight Parisian upper-class, and the harsh yet free-spirited and familiar suburbs he grew up in, Antoine will have to find his own voice.

A film that pleases and does not go out of tune, although here neither of these things are precisely virtues. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Chris P @Xiao_Proxies Apr 14 Ténor tells the story of a young man from the suburbs who discovers a hidden talent for opera singing, blending urban culture with classical music in a way that's fresh and promising. It's an underdog story with heart, anchored by a genuinely likable performance from MB14 and a warm presence from Michèle Laroque. The film succeeds in highlighting the contrast and the unexpected harmony between two very different worlds. Some scenes are genuinely emotional, and the music sequences are a pleasure to watch. However, the plot is highly predictable, and the screenplay plays it safe throughout. There's a lack of narrative depth, especially when it comes to the supporting characters and the challenges of entering the elite world of opera. Visually, the film is clean but uninspired, and while the message is uplifting, the delivery doesn't always strike the right note. Still, Ténor is a charming watch with strong moments, even if it never quite rises to its full potential. Great plot, well told. See more Gortee U @RT40231437 11/24/2024 The movie is great, especial i love the story of it, tho at the end once everything went down, immediately got back like nothing had happend, and some critics say that some tunes are off See more Laurie F @RT39066223 12/13/2023 Formulaic, manipulative and clichéd. Silly storyline and one dimensional characters. A great waste of pixels but at least the theatre was air conditioned and my house is very hot. It was nice to be in a cool dark space.
