In a tiny California town, high school students Brian (Kevin Dillon), Meg (Shawnee Smith) and Paul (Donovan Leitch) discover a strange, gelatinous substance that melts the flesh of any living creatures in its path. The deadly substance gets into the town's sewer system, where it begins growing uncontrollably, occasionally emerging to feast on unsuspecting townspeople. A military clean-up crew is sent to eliminate the menace, but it may end up doing more harm than good.

The Blob can't replicate the B-movie charms of the original, though its fast pace and gory thrills pack enough of a punch to make it a worthwhile update.

Director Chuck Russell’s remake of the 1958 B-movie maintains the notion of an all-consuming ooze gorging itself on a small town but infuses it with body horror, fluorescent jelly, and a nothing-is-sacred disaster movie attitude.

Really awful movie that would have been relegated to the dust bin of time if it didn't star future screen icon Steve McQueen. Brilliant in it's awfulness and horribly acted. This is the perfect drive-in movie. A chore to sit through YET giddily hokey dialog left me laughing and nostalgic at the same time. I recommend you see it...at least once.

Great to see an old movie on a big screen but this one was watchable only because of great Steve McQueen. Otherwise pales in comparison to other 50s scifi/horror classics like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Day the Earth Stood Still, etc.

Though the film was first released in 1958 without all of the technical help of today, the story was still entertaining and had relatable characters. Its easy to see why Steve McQueen became a great star after this debut appearance on the big screen.
