The Book of Solutions

What to Know

Critics Consensus

If not the most memorable tome in Michel Gondry's surreal repertory, Book of Solutions still delivers visual flair to casual fans and is a touching ode to creativity.

Gondry’s first feature in eight years, and it’s possibly the worst movie he has ever made. Go to Full Review Isaac Feldberg RogerEbert.com Jun 3, 2023
Tempers Gondry's trademark naiveté and lack of narrative discipline with a self-critical examination of his strengths and weaknesses as an artist if only to salute the survival of his child mind in the film industry as its own little wonder. Go to Full Review David Ehrlich IndieWire May 26, 2023

The Book of Solutions is -- first and foremost -- a high-energy ode to the joys of being possessed by a creative spirit, and the pleasure that Gondry takes in telling a plot-light story that’s driven by pure invention is both palpable and contagious. Peter W @RT12077588 Sep 2, 2025 Overall, as a movie enthusiast, I had an enjoyable experience watching this film. It was fascinating to see a director pursuing his dream of making a masterpiece movie, and his journey was full of surprises and playful moments. The movie does an excellent job of reminding viewers of the magic of cinema and the hard work that goes into creating each project, something that often goes unnoticed. The lead character, Marc, is likable, and despite his challenging nature and continuous changes to his original plan, we root for his dream. While there were many enjoyable moments, the film's conclusion left me unsatisfied with its slightly ambiguous ending. See more Read all reviews
