Xexla M @CriticalMahogany Oct 9, 2026 Based on the book “The Werwolf of Paris” by Guy Endore, this film is a looser adaptation. Focusing on the wolf himself the story streamlines his narrative changing any of the politically incorrect and darker aspects from the French romantic book. Overall the practical effects of the film are well done and this is a film that holds up today! Worth a watch for any classic horror fans! See more Ollie W @RT90619198 Aug 13, 2026 God forbid someone gets bitten by a werewolf and then becomes a werewolf. Instead, the first half the film is a very convoluted backstory to explain how Oliver Reed became the wolfman. Lacks suspense and scares and its lacking the visual beauty of the early Universal horror films such as The Wolfman. And I don't know why I was surprised to see Oliver Reed in the film because I considered him a "dramatic thespian" instead of a blue-collar actor somewhere in the back of my mind. I don't know how that thought got stuck in my head. See more Red T @RT43513976 Sep 11, 2023 A Solid Underrated Horror Film & a Hammer Classic. Pretty much everything about his is well done. This relies a lot on suspense and drama rather than horror and gore until about the last 10 minutes. Really the only main issues is none of the characters have too much depth to them including the main werewolf who doesn't even become the main character until mid second hlaf of the film. However the order of events following that all flows in a logical fluid manner. The acting also can be a bit campy but in a good way with some cool chilling dialouge and the style of the acting at times is very much silent film style at points which gives it a unique identity. The special effects are solid but not as well done and the sets aren't as memorable as the original Wolf Man. The ending is solid and there isn't much dialouge either and has good buildup and some cool stunts. Granted you don't even see the werewolf actually until the end as most of it is implied and relies much more on having your imagination fill in the blanks but its well done nonetheless. If your looking for a gore fest this isn't for you but if your a fan of Hammer Films, Wolf Man in general, any actors in this, or well done campy Horror this is something to definitely check out. A Hidden Gem. See more Read all reviews
